New Wednesday Night Study: 1 Corinthians

1corinthiansOn October 16, Grace Brethren Chapel will begin a new study on Wednesday nights, as we take a careful look at Paul’s first epistle to the Corinthians. Here’s a short introduction to the book of 1 Corinthians from the ESV Study Bible:

Corinth sat on the isthmus connecting the Greek mainland with the Peloponnesian peninsula. This location made it a flourishing crossroads for sea traffic between the Aegean region and the western Mediterranean. It was a place where many cultures and religions mingled. Since it was a Roman colony, Roman law and customs were important, particularly among the upper classes, but “many ‘gods’ and many ‘lords’” found a home in Corinth (8:5). New Wednesday Night Study: The Explicit Gospel

262699201_640On July 31, Grace Brethren Chapel will begin a new study on Wednesday nights, entitled “The Explicit Gospel”. We invite you to join us as we seek to better understand, share, and apply the gospel of Jesus Christ.

From the cover:

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest news ever proclaimed to humanity. Yet many believers have a limited grasp of the power of the gospel. Once saved, they don’t avail themselves of all the gospel offers for Christian living.

This Bible study makes explicit the multifaceted truths of the gospel. Matt Chandler clearly defines the saving power of the gospel and then articulates what the gospel does for believers after salvation. He challenges you to embrace and rely on the gospel to grow in Christlikeness, to persevere in you faith, to serve others in the power of Christ, and to celebrate your eternal redemption.

The gospel is much bigger than you may have imagined. Let the explicit gospel shatter your preconceptions to reveal unexplored dimensions of God’s grace.

Summer Sermon Series

CHURCH

For many, church is simply a building or gathering that only takes place on Sundays or Wednesdays. The biblical view of the church, however, is a community of believers who know, love, and serve Jesus. In other words, church is not something we do, but who we are as a covenant community in Christ, and this entails much more than getting together on Sunday mornings.

This summer, we are going to be looking at what it is to be a covenant community in Christ. Find out more about the church, community, and the gospel of Jesus in our summer sermon series CHURCH: It’s More Than A Building, beginning this Sunday at Grace Brethren Chapel.

Disciple Hour classes begin at 10am and worship begins at 11am.

Vacation Bible School at GBC

GBCVBS

Grace Brethren Chapel is excited to announce our 2013 Vacation Bible School! This year’s VBS is titled Heroes of the Bible & How They All Point to Jesus. This year’s curriculum was written by the people at GBC, and has a two-fold focus. Students will learn about five of God’s attributes, while also learning how various characters of the Bible point to Jesus. Noah was found to be a righteous man, but no righteousness is like the righteousness of Jesus. Samson was a man of great strength, but only Jesus has the power to overcome sin and death. David showed great mercy to Saul in sparing his life, but there is no mercy like the mercy God shows sinners through Jesus.

VBS will run from July 22-26, from 6-8pm, and will include classes for preschool to high school students. In addition to gospel-centered, biblical teaching, each night will include singing, games, crafts, and snacks.

We are looking forward to a great week of learning about, and worshipping Jesus, and invite you and your children to join us!
